Fairview / Solar Public Meeting

Public Input Encouraged!
Public comments are sought to define the scope and alternatives for an Environmental
Assessment (EA) to obtain environmental clearance under the National Environmental
Policy Act for a proposed solar energy facility in Richland County, west of the Town of
Fairview, Montana. The proposed project, known as Fairview I Solar Project, involves
the proposed construction of a 74.5 megawatts solar energy generating facility.
Additional project components include a 25-megawatt, four-hour battery storage
initiative, overhead transmission line connecting to the Western Area Power
Administration (WAPA) transmission system, and internal access roads. The project is
planned to interconnect at the Montana-Dakota Utilities Company/WAPA’s Fairview
West 115-kilovolt substation. Construction of the Fairview I Solar Project is proposed to
begin in spring 2026.
WAPA will hold a public scoping meeting in an open-house format to provide an
opportunity for the public, adjacent property owners, and other interested parties to
discuss the project with project developers, WAPA staff, and resource specialists, and to
submit comments. The meeting will be held on July 11, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00
p.m., Mountain Daylight Time, at the Fairview Senior Center in the Town of Fairview, in
Richland County.
